232: Your Efforts Are Important

Apple of His Eye Charity exists to bring hope and help to orphans, widows, the poor, and the forgotten, in developing countries. This past year we added Jim Schlatter to the charity’s board as our Spiritual Director. At a recent board meeting, Jim brought a devotion to remind us that, as Christians, God is our great Treasure. “But we have this TREASURE in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” (2 Corinthians 4:7). God wants to use each of us to share the GOOD NEWS that Jesus Christ came to rescue people from sin. “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to RESCUE us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.” (Galatians 1:3–4)

When you weigh the charity’s efforts against the massive needs in our world, you might make the mistake of thinking they are insignificant. But that consideration excludes God’s involvement. Jim drew our attention to Lord’s feeding of the five thousand (Matthew 14). As evening approached, Jesus looked out over a large crowd that had been attentively listening to Him all day. Knowing the crowd would be hungry, Jesus told His disciples to feed them. One of the disciples, Philip, couldn’t see how the crumbs of a few fish and a few loaves of bread would make a dent in satisfying so many hungry people.

Do you ever feel like Philip, thinking your efforts are insignificant in view of the great needs of our world? I know I do. When I consider that there are millions of people in America, the number of those who read my blogs or listen to my voice is very small. Each of you are significant, but my influence on our nation is miniscule. But my task, and yours, is not to solve all of the world’s problems. Our task is to obey the Lord and cooperate with Him. He is the solution. He is what this world needs. We are called to be co-laborers with Him.

As a charity, we might not be solving all the problems facing the nations of India or Rwanda, but we are providing homes, clothing, regular meals, education, and the message of Jesus Christ’s love to hundreds, and they are very appreciative. Their lives are greatly improved. I invite you to visit our website and join hands with us, https://appleofhiseyecharity.org/.

“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that YOUR LABOR IN THE LORD IS NOT IN VAIN.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Marlon Furtado

I regularly went to church as a boy, but I was not exposed to the Gospel until I was nearly twenty years old. Hearing that God loved me in spite of my behavior was new to me. In response, I received Jesus Christ and became one of His followers on September 12, 1971. I practiced chiropractic for eight years before becoming a pastor from 1986 to 2018.
